TOM : STAGE MANAGER
" I began my journey into stage management at FE college. I had just ended a very difficult chapter in my education but I was still passionate about theatre yet felt lost and had no direction. My written work does not present well due to my dyslexia and mental health and is something I had struggled with for most of my academic life. My tutor was able to look past this and see what I was trying to achieve which was a reoccurring theme throughout my time on the course. My tutor was able to take my dyslexia and wellbeing into consideration and encouraged creative ways to create my work. I cannot express how comforting that attitude was. I went through this course loving lighting design and prop making but found my way into stage management.

I was then accepted into Rose Bruford College to study this and I owe it the support of my tutor. I would want to say to anyone looking at technical theatre or production arts as a career, do it and never look back. It is a most engaging and dynamic course and would encourage anyone to do it. I stand by the statement that I would not be where I am today had it not of been the kindness and support of Ian my tutor"

" I knew I wanted to be an actor from when I left secondary school and the tutors at college gave me those opportunities. Sam my tutor, let me know I will probably have to work harder then the next person as I would be going into an industry that’s predominantly led by white people but working with Sam helped me really believe I could do it. I got to go on courses at RADA and Drama Centre in fact, I got my first paid job whilst I was a college with Theatre Peckham. The fact that I ended up getting into Mountview goes to show, you can make the best out of anything. I wouldn’t be where I am now if I didn’t get the belief from my tutor "

" Deciding which higher education institution best suited me would not have happened without the support from Sam. Her dedication that’s put into each and every student, opened our minds to consider further training opportunities in drama. Before my FE course, I would not of thought about continuing to higher education. Being from a low income family and worrying about not being able to financially support myself at drama school stopped me from doing it at first.
I really benefited from 1-1 tutorials that discussed topics such as, student finance, living expenses as well as the social expectations in universities/ conservatoire and more. The partnerships that Sam has with many of the country’s top drama schools gave us the chance to visit these institutions and see a hands on depiction of what you’ll be expecting if you get into the drama school, such as its social environments, diversity and class percentages. These trips explain how the school can support your needs and difficulties when facing further study: such as dyslexia, childcare, mental health and disability. The overall encouragement (and honesty) from Sam that we all experienced was essential when deciding our future careers. In my first 2 years of college, I would never have believed a student like me (from struggling circumstances) could progress into higher education. I am now in my final year at Rose Bruford College on the BA (hons) American Theatre Arts course" .

VICKY: STAGE MANAGEMENT
" I’m really happy I chose Rose Bruford, it is really nice, everyone’s really nice as well. I’m not going to lie when I first entered my class I felt kind of out of place because I’m the only black person in my course so it was kind of hard for me to relate to anyone. But over the weeks I’ve met some lovely people" .
Thank you so much for introducing me to Sylvia, she’s so kind. She even offered to be my mentor and said I can get in contact with her whenever and she can give me opportunities in the field. Sylvia and I had a zoom call and we literally got along so well, she's so funny and kind. We literally clicked, and was laughing most of the time. I had no idea, that I’d meet someone who is basically the same as me and she was able to understand how I felt when I first attended drama school. Meeting Sylvia has definitely boosted my confidence at university. Knowing that I’ve got help from you guys every step of the way just makes me so happy. I’m so grateful for your help. I’m so excited to see how this journey goes! Thank you."
