The Lord Mayor of London's Borough of Culture: Lewisham 2022
THE HOUSE OF LEWISHAM
Across Autumn 2021, we researched, devised and wrote a performance called The House of Lewisham which was based on some of Lewisham's notable characters for Borough of Culture 2022. Using Ball Culture motifs, song, spoken word and dance, the February 2022 performances addressed many issues such as Equality, Diversity, De-colonialism, Black lives Matter and LGBTQ+ History. The cast was made up from members of the KYW programme and students from Lewisham Colleges recently relaunched Performing & Production Arts Department. The Creative and Technical elements were made and operated from LC production arts course. We performed 2 shows for the community and 1 schools matinee.

       FEEDBACK
Kimberly Walker: Former Desmond's actor.
" I had the pleasure of watching The House of Lewisham this afternoon. They bought tears to my eyes as they took me on a historical journey. With messages of acceptance, the power of communities, when people come together we can make a change. I absolutely believe projects like this are important for the young people, as a way of expressing and empowering themselves at the same time"

" To say that I have never seen a group of school students so engrossed in the performance was an understatement. The history was so informative, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The college students were outstanding, those on stage and those behind the scenes
