iFound Extended Remix Art Exhibition
St Andrews Mews, Hastings(2024)

Curated as the extended remix St Andrews Mews artists in residence; Ian Shillito and Ian Skelton devised a three week exhibition across the annual Coastal Currents festival. They wanted to use this opportunity to showcase other iFound artists particularly those who have had minimal experience exhibiting work professionally. Know Your Worth contacted the local art college, and art evening classes and was introduced to recent graduates. The aim of this opportunity was to provide a platform for them to show their work in a public domain and outside of college. They would be involved in the process and also invited to the private view and encouraged to network.

This exhibition offered me valuable experience in showcasing my work publicly, connecting with the local art community, and learning from other artists. It was a great opportunity to not only present my work but also gain insights from feedback and interaction with visitors

1. WHAT PROJECT DID YOU WORK / COLLABORATE / OR PARTNER WITH US ON?

I was lucky enough to be selected to have my textile/printmaking work included as part of a collaborative exhibition ‘IFOUND- Extended Remix’ led by the amazing Two Ians. This was my first time exhibiting publicly outside of college, and it was a delight to be part of an exhibition that explored recycled and found materials; something that resonates closely to me and my artistic practice.

2. WHAT DID THE YOU GET FROM THIS PROJECT / OPPORTUNITY?

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities that this project allowed me to explore, it was rewarding to be part of such a vivacious and immersive exhibition and it was refreshing to see our work being displayed, lit and curated with such artistic consideration. I'm sincerely grateful for how welcoming, supportive and passionate The Two Ians have been for my introduction into the art world and i couldn’t have asked for a better experience in beginning to share my work with the local community alongside many other talented artists. This entire experience gave me confidence in sharing my art and learning that it holds worth to the community.

3.WOULD YOU LIKE TO DEVELOP THE PROJECT/ OPPORTUNITY  FURTHER?

If there were ever an opportunity to be part of further projects by this same organisation I would jump at the chance to be part of it all again. It’s been a great way to allow new and emerging artists to come together and share work as a collective , each piece part of one narrative ,led by a communal focus.

4.WOULD YOU RECOMMEND WORKING WITH KNOW YOUR WORTH TO OTHERS

I would without a doubt recommend ‘Know Your Worth’ to others since I truly stand by their passions and aims, and my experience was nothing but positive! Thank you

5.IS IT CLEAR WHAT OUR KNOW YOUR WORTH  ETHOS IS FROM WORKING WITH US ?

From working alongside this project, the ethos for 'Know Your Worth' is shown vicariously through each action , thought, choice and consideration. The ethos is strong and relevant and entirely relatable to me as a recently graduated art foundation student, trying to navigate the artistic industry. I'm grateful that there are programs and experiences like ‘Know Your Worth’ that allow creatives in or out of education to get a chance at sharing work, and communicating with other artists, its reassuring to have this support in such a challenging and overwhelming creative industry.

We were asked by the team behind the borough of culture if we had any suitable participants from our own funded show who would like to be part of a film promoting and celebrating the festival. The result would be projected during the launch day across major landmarks in the borough of Lewisham but also, on the world famous Piccadilly Lights. Athena, Lakeisha and Asante, took up the once in a life time challenge.

We were approached from by the team behind Revealing the Creek project, ( Raybel Charters and Arthouse Ventures) to discuss ways in which they can work with local young creatives on their upcoming community heritage and performance. project. We spoke to the producers about how we could assist, and suggested suitable applicants who's skills could be developed from this excellent local historical project. We initially arranged the company come and talk to Lewisham College performing and production students to present their concept and encourage a sign up. The project ran across the summer months of 2022 and culminated in a community heritage performance in venues around Deptford and Greenwich.

"I was involved in the "Revealing the Creek" project, and I can say with certainty that it was the project that changed my perspective on life. Having the opportunity to work with so many people from different backgrounds and working outside of my usual was an incomparable experience. It gave me the chance to realize that really the idea of working with artists from different fields like music, acting, and design is what brings a new era to the world

Revealing The Creek (2021/22)

We were made aware of an amazing opportunity by the producers of the recent West End show ' Cabaret' from Sylvia at Backstage Niche. They were looking for budding stage management students who would benefit from of work experience during the rehearsal period of a professional show (Cabaret). We put forward Know Your Worth member  Victory Adeniyi who was now studying at Rose Bruford. We had to speak to the company manager to sing Vicky's praises. Vicky was over the moon when she was successful.  Vicky has granted us permission to share her response to this opportunity mid project with others who may want to participate in our KYW programme.

" I am currently on week 2 at my placement, at Cabaret and wow I absolutely love it, and I get paid travel expenses and lunch. The atmosphere feels like home. I'm so glad I've got this opportunity to experience theatre and stage management in the real world. Everyone is soon nice and welcoming. I feel so happy to be apart of this. Honestly, a couple months ago I was literally just confused about this whole course, but I'm so happy I'm still doing it, I literally can't thank you enough for the support and connections. You're actually the best!"

We were approached by Chi Onuora formal learning manager from the National Maritime Museum to supply a couple of young performers who would like to participate in a promotional film for the museums new portrait exhibition called Tudors to Windsor's. We were delighted to put forward three members, Athena, Lakeisha and Courtney. This was a paid job and really gave the girls an insight into how history is interpreted in a museum gallery setting but also valuable knowledge about art and how it can be decoded. Each student was filmed talking about each portrait giving their own explanation of what they think it is saying. The concept also develops a stronger cultural capital and presents the fact that museums and galleries are available for everyone.
